Antonio Layug, more commonly known by his nickname Budji, is a Filipino furniture designer and hairstylist who owns the popular Budji Collections Inc. His company is widely known for its traditional Filipino craftsmanship and for using high quality natural materials sourced locally. Some of his works have graced some of the world's most prominent hotels and homes.

Born in 1950, Budji is the third child among the eight children of Herminia Layug, whose family owns one of the leading and most successful furniture companies in the Philippines. Being born into a creative and artistic family -- his mother is the founder of the Philippine School of Interior design, and two of his siblings are artists -- it was just a matter of time before Budji began to take interest in design. He is a graduate of New York School of Interior Design, and went to Santo Tomas University in Manila to take up architecture. He spent the next seven years traveling around the world, with the goal of enriching his knowledge in foreign culture, art and design. He stayed in London to study hairstyling at Vidal Sassoon Academy.

When he came back to the Philippines, Budji decided to explore his home country as thoroughly as he had Europe and the Americas. While on a beach back in the seventies, he saw two locals skillfully putting together a bamboo outrigger canoe. This was the moment when his idea for a business venture was born. As he watched, he couldn't help but be impressed by the display of skill and the beauty of the native materials the locals used. Soon after this moment of inspiration, Budji started designing furniture that used traditional techniques and indigenous materials. To this day, Budji's products reflect that traditional look... but he brings his products to another level by fusing that uniquely Pinoy look with sleek and elegant aesthetics.
